One If By Land…

It’s official. The Brits have invaded our apartment.

This week has been all Harry Potter, all the time. Jim has already sped through Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. I’m a bit slower. Of course, I didn’t have the entire weekend to read non-stop. I have to read it during every spare minute I can find. I’m desperate to get through it before I somehow get spoiled on how it ends - which I am still convinced will happen, even though I’m about two-thirds of the way through it (and for the record, loving every word).

I’ve threatened Jim within an inch of his life not to spoil it for me. Now if I can just put myself in a bubble, safe and secure from the media, I might make it.

And then there’s The Doctor. What a wonderful, little surprise Doctor Who has been for us this summer. I cannot believe how much I’ve enjoyed it. Christopher Eccleston - fantastic! David Tennant - who I may be developing quite the crush on - brilliant!.

It’s funny, scary, dark, hopeful and sarcastic - what’s not to love?. We have raced through the DVDs of the first two seasons and I can hardly wait for October when the season three DVD is released. And yes, I know it’s currently airing on SciFi, and we’ve been recording them, but I’ve enjoyed the DVD experience so much that I think I’d prefer to watch it that way.

And then there’s BBC America. I know, more television, but they deserve a shout out. I thoroughly enjoyed the first season of Robin Hood. It’s fun and I’ve always like the Robin Hood myth. And we’re counting the minutes until the second season of Life on Mars premieres.

And then there’s Anthony Stewart Head. Giles! Need I say more? Oh wait, yes, I must. He did a wonderful guest appearance in season two of Doctor Who. Not my favorite episode, but Tony Head can really play the menacing bad guy to the hilt.

Let’s see, what else…Ricky Gervais in Extras, Eddie Izzard in The Riches, Helen Mirren in The Queen. Hell! Even Victoria Beckham isn’t as hateable as I expected.

Faced with all of that, what’s a girl to do? Surrender, of course.

I’m 2/3 of the way through and I refuse to read any headline that mentions the words “Harry Potter” for fear of running across spoilers (I heard some of the newspaper reviews told all). I almost didn’t read this post but I knew that Rox wouldn’t ruin my ten years of waiting.

Off the record, this book is giving me nightmares!

[...] One If By Land… - Right. This was really just an excuse for Rox to point out how she’s she’s all moony-eyed for David Tennant. digg_url=’http://www.medialoper.com/columns/the-weekly-loper/the-weekly-loper-july-29-2007/’; digg_skin = ”; digg_bgcolor = ‘#FFFFFF’; digg_title = ‘The+Weekly+%27Loper+-+July+29%2C+2007′; digg_bodytext = ”; digg_topic = ”; Powered by Gregarious (21) [...]
