Don’t Tell The Others, They’ll Only Laugh Edition

- Hollywood rethinks chick flicks
The ode of the forgotten sex (or, the human race doesn’t merely consist of male teenage boys): "I hope ['Sex and the City'] will at least bring about more of a trend toward films made specifically for adult female women," says Donna Langley, Universal’s president of production, who ran out opening weekend to catch the film, both as a consumer and a professional. "You would hope, given the success of ‘Sex and the City,’ people will remember there is a huge female audience out there, and, judging by these numbers, they’re clearly starved, for the most part." - SAG actions irk AFTRA
Hence the break-up. SAG continues to fight for better terms on residuals while AFTRA remains miffed about, well, everything SAG has ever done. - One-click site to tell Amazon that you don’t want Audible DRM
Cory Doctorow talks about the Audible/Amazon DRM problem (and notes a rather interesting contradiction): My latest novel is a Random House audiobook and Amazon refused to carry it because it had no DRM on it — I never thought I’d see the day when Amazon would refuse to sell my books because they didn’t have enough restrictions. After all, this is the company whose official (and fantastic) position on used books is "When someone buys a book, they are also buying the right to resell that book, to loan it out, or to even give it away if they want. Everyone understands this." It goes without saying that one of the rights you lose when you buy an Audible book is the right to resell it, loan it or give it away. - Chinese suspected in Capitol hacking cases
I’m going to suggest that there’s more to this story than is being reported elsewhere. The lawmaker in question is looking for publicity for a pet cause. His claim that he suddenly has a detailed analysis of the security breach seems unlikely unless we see some more proof. Also, the suggestion that members of congress are responsible for installing their own Windows security updates has me concerned. As a taxpayer I demand better IT support. - Federal judge OKs sale of promo CDs
For the record, those warnings on promo CDs have absolutely no legal standing. Turns out, everyone understands the doctrine of first sale but the entertainment industry. - 97’s enlist help from Six
Tricia Helfer in the latest Old 97s video? Best crossover since Scarlett Johansson in that Bob Dylan video.
